In 2001, we took our first team to work together at the Jamaica Deaf Village. God has used this trip each year to develop relationships and strengthen our faith in ways we never could have imagined.
About the Deaf VillageThe Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf (CCCD) operates three schools on the island of Jamaica. They are residential facilities that bring in the rural deaf who would otherwise not have access to a language, basic education, vocational training, or the gospel of Jesus Christ. After graduating, however, many deaf Jamaicans are still left with little hope of finding work, friends, a spouse, or a church home.
Situated on 100 acres of land near the center of the island, CCCD is building a village for the deaf, open to both graduates and others from around the nation. Lives are changed at the Village where a church, housing, and consistent employment are available. Plans for the Village include single family homes, apartments, medical facilities, and recreational areas, as well as day care, shopping, and retirement services.
Visiting teams spend a week with the residents of the Village while working together on various construction and maintenance projects to bring this dream one step closer to completion.
Go with UsThe isolated island setting and the new relationships you’ll form with your teammates provide a truly unique discipleship experience. We’ll work together on long-term construction projects, lead Bible studies and children’s programs for the residents of the Deaf Village, and grow closer to God and each other throughout the week. The cool Jamaican evenings are the perfect setting for our group devotionals and outdoor worship.
No sign language, construction, or teaching experience is required—you’ll pick up everything you need to know along the way! All you need is a heart willing to work and ready to experience what God has in store for you.
This year’s team returned July 22.
