JDV 2016: Thursday

This year I had the pleasure of organizing Vacation Bible School for the children at Jamaica Deaf Village. We had such a great time this week! We had 10 kids ranging from 9 years old to 11 months old! Our theme was “Trusting God’s Plan” and we learned that God is always in control and we can trust Him because He loves us. It has been so fun to see their faces as we learn about Joseph, David, Esther, ...

JDV 2016: Tuesday

The morning was a scorching one. We made great progress. This afternoon we have been at a stand still due to heavy downpour. We aren’t accomplishing much on the road but it’s ok we are building deeper friendships with each other in the factory while we take cover.

Carly is doing some awesome finger painting. The girl is strong and talented I am so glad to have some time with her and Zan. This has been a very different trip.

JDV 2016: Monday

Today started off with some beautiful weather. Woke up at 6:00 this morning and the cool breeze was just amazing. Today was our first day of working construction and it was a little tough. It was pretty hot and the sun was wearing down on us. Shoveling and pouring concrete is way tougher than you think.

When we took a break at lunch I was tired but as I sat there I felt great knowing all the work we had just ...

JDV 2016: Sunday

To keep in context with the message we heard this morning, I’d like to share with you my experience during the short visit to the infirmary. However, to start, I will share a part of the sermon that rattled my heart in such a beautiful way. The speaker, with much conviction, said to us, “maturity in the Lord is not instantaneous.” Now, that’s not necessarily verbatim, but that’s how my heart and mind interpreted it. I’ve been a “Christian” for ...

JDV 2016: Travel

My day began at 3:30 AM. Yes, I did say AM. It is always so hard to go to sleep the night before we head out to Jamaica. I have this fear that I am not going to hear the alarm, sleep right thru and get this call from Leah telling me that I missed the bus! And then my mind is reeling with questions, Did I forgot to pack something?, Did I remember my passport?, Will we make ...

ACA 2015: Agriculture

Sending along some pictures of ACA agriculture endeavors. There are all sorts of fruit trees that they have planted; cherry, guava, pomegranate, mango, lemon, gooseberry, and several others. They are also growing rice and about to plant wheat. We have been enjoying some wonderful cherry jam that Leela made with some of the fruit here. They water the banana orchards (over 400 trees right now) and the rice fields with recycled water (we Wichitans know about that, don’t we!). ...

ACA 2015: Arrival and Church

We arrived in Bangalore and spent most of the day resting and recovering. We went to eat tonight at Tamarind Restaurant, where we had kabobs, butter chicken, and nan.

At Bangalore Bible Church this morning, Reggie preached on John 4 and the woman at the well. Please pray for the church’s new pastor Dave and his wife Phebe.

After lunch, we left Bangalore and made the journey to ACA–it was quite a ride. There has been much progress made here at the ...
